{Friday Frock} Pep up Princess

My Grandma would always dress in her best ‘frock’ for three occasions: trips to the Bank, trips to Church or trips to the funeral home. She always insisted these were the places a southern lady should look her best. Although I am heading out to none of these places, I wanted to create a series dedicated to fabulous outfits. Whether they are my original wears or a pinterest find, I will utilize my Friday’s dishing up great outfits or as my grandmother called them “frocks”.

A frock isn’t your day-to-day outfit. It is a special little something you keep tucked away in your closet for special occasions where you want to WOW! This look is one I would save for a date night with the Boyfriend or in this case my first day of the ‘big girl job’! Check out what I rocked Monday morning!

Meeting Marquin

Rose gold is all the rage for Spring 2013 and recently I got my rosy fix from the southern artist Marquin over at marquindesigns.com. My super cool bracelet is adorned with a bullet charm shot by the designer herself. Such a bad ass.

20130208-093503.jpg

Since wearing my cooler-than-I bracelet, I have gotten muchos compliments and thought I would share other designs I am dying for by this South Carolina designer. Many of her jewelry creations incorporate the self-shot bullets. So southern right? What southern women doesn’t know how to shoot a gun – it’s a right of passage!! Take a look at my favorite designs then venture over to her site for a ton of other hot pieces! {Here}

I absolutely adore this necklace. Between the vintage feel and beautiful colors, whats not to love about this statement necklace.

Bullets, pearls and tassels.... everything southern wrapped into one piece of jewelry.

TSL: If you were born without wings, do nothing to prevent their growing

Since moving to Atlanta – I have embraced my new town. I find myself listening to Usher, TLC or Ludacris because their from Atlanta. I’m now drinking only coca cola because it began in Atlanta and you guessed it – cheering on the Falcon’s because they are Atlanta’s team.

Since the Falcons are making their first appearance in the NFC championship since I can remember; I dedicate this latest installment of The Lovin’ Spoonful to the Atlanta Falcons. In honor of this weekends playoff game – I have decided to give the Falcons wings to fly by serving up Sweet & Spicy chicken wings for the big game. Recipe thanks to this Pinterest find {Here}

You’ll need 15 chicken wings along with the following:

Wing Marinade

Marinade:
1 tbsp olive oil
4 cloves of garlic – minced
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
3 tbsp tomato paste
2 tsp Tabasco sauce
1 tsp cayenne pepper or crushed chili peppers
2 tbsp honey

How to Prepare:

1. In a large bowl, mix together the marinade ingredients. Season the chicken wings with salt before coating well in the marinade. Cover, refrigerate for at least an hour (overnight is best but I marinated for 2 hours).
2. Preheat oven to 425F.

3. Line a baking pan with parchment paper, and place the chicken wings on top (keep the leftover marinade for basting later). Drizzle honey over each wing for a nice light glaze. Then sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper.

4. Bake for 20 minutes, then flip the chicken wings over and brush them with the remaining marinade.

DSC_0110 Bake for another 15 minutes, or until the chicken is crispy and golden brown. Serve warm – with napkins of course!

Maybe these extra wings will help the Falcons soar to victory over the 49er’s!

If you really wanna know ask Chilli

Like I mentioned {Here}, my 2013 is all about new! Whether it is trying a new style, food or activity; I’m ready for new experiences this year!! In light of new things – my latest is more of a ‘first’.

This week – I met my first celebrity!! I have never met anyone I would personally consider a celeb but this mundane Monday changed that. Check it out – I met Chilli from TLC!

photo

Please pardon how I look…it was Monday and I didn’t know I would be rubbing elbows with celebs

After meeting Chilli, I remembered why I fell in love with TLC to begin with. Her cool manner and down to earth personality matches that of her Atlanta roots. Like a good southern woman she made an effort to stop, show her gratitude and say goodbye before her departure. Another reason I am now more in love with Chilli? She loves fashion, apparent from her handbag line all about personalization. Check those out {Here}.

TLC’s music really did get me through some awkward teen stages. From listening to ‘Unpretty’ and feeling so connected; to dedicating ‘No Scrubs’ to the latest scallywag I had kicked to the curb.

After seeing how tiny Chilli is, I will be breaking out my TLC music not only to reminisce but to work out!

What new thing should I try next? Tweet me @theprettypeach
